Hawk Green Shine at Buxton Contest 2025

The Buxton Brass Band Contest returned to the Pavilion Gardens on Sunday, May 4, 2025, saw a strong lineup of bands across all sections. We performed for the first time since our promotion in the Second Section – opting to perform Kenneth Downie’s intricate and expressive Purcell Variations.

The band were delighted to be awarded Third Place in a very strong field. Congratulations to Delph Band on their win, and our friends at Besses Boys band who finished in Second Place. A special mention to Besses Boys who loaned us an instrument at short notice due to last minute problem with one of ours. This true banding spirit shows how the brass banding community so special.

A Performance to Be Proud Of

The third-place result was a fitting reward for Hawk Green’s hard work and commitment in the run up to the contest. The band’s performance stood out not only for ensemble playing, but also for the quality of its soloists, whose contributions added colour, character, and brilliance to a technically challenging test piece. The day concluded with a photograph on the bandstand with the trophy!

The band also extends its warmest thanks to our supporters, families, and Band President Geoff, whose continued encouragement and presence at contests like Buxton mean so much to the players on stage.
