Red Admiral Entertainment Contest
The Red Admiral Entertainment Contest: A Showcase of Brass Band Talent was one of the most eagerly anticipated events of the 2024 Brass Band calendar. It was exciting to see a brand
new event in the North West where the brief was to captivate the audience with an imaginative and engaging programme.
Held at St Michael’s school in Chorley, the band were drawn to play last in the 3rd Section. This was a great draw as many members were able to head up to Chorley early and watch
some of our friends in other bands and also the top section where there were some fantastic performances on show.
With a programme featuring Chuck Corea’s “Spain”, Traditional piece “Londonderry Air” and concluding with Steven Ponsford’s “Servants of God” the theme was linked to pieces from around
the world with the band also hunting for a soloist for the last piece. The adjudicators enjoyed this and awarded us the prize for the Most Entertaining Band as well as finishing in Third
Place.
With all entertainment contests the band must perform a solo. Our Solo Cornet Player Sam Barnett played the solo “Londonderry Air” with class. He showed off his lovely tone and showcased why he has picked up the bands player of the year award. Not only was Sam our soloist for the day but he sat
Principal Cornet for the contest at a moments notice due to illness.
The band also picked up the prizes for the Best Cornet section and the Best Flugel and Horn Section. Leading to two more trophies for the collection.
